The Phenomenon of Singing
International Symposium IX

July 7 - 10, 2013

An international singing symposium in Canada in 2013. Festival 500, in cooperation with Memorial University of Newfoundland, invites you to attend The Phenomenon of Singing International Symposium IX, an integral academic component of this international choral festival.

The 2013 Symposium features keynote presenters: Francisco J. Núñez, Kathy Armstrong, David Moss, Mia Makaroff, Tim Sharp, Daniel Taylor,  Fr. Dr. Paul Poovathingal, and Marian Dolan. See thier bios here

Come to Newfoundland in 2013 to hear talks and presentations about choral music, singing and health, singing techniques, vocal pedagogy, and the power of song and singing.

If you have never attended a symposium session at Festival 500, imagine a series of Ted Talks about singing! That is the type of discourse you can expect from the Phenomenon of Singing International Symposium.

The Symposium attracts international scholars, pedagogues and artists who come to engage with others ininterdisciplinary discourse through the presentations of research, lecture-recitals, panels, poster sessions and roundtable dialogues. Presentations address a variety of aspects of singing and the voice including artistic, physiological, cultural, sociological, historical, pedagogical, psychological, creative/compositional... and more.

The Symposium aims to gather international expertise, provide a forum for interdisciplinary discussion, performance and the dissemination of research, and generate further knowledge relating to the phenomenon of singing.

The Phenomenon of Singing International Symposium IX offers something for everyone! Teachers, researchers, performers, students and indeed anyone interested in singing and the power of song... come and attend this wonderful gathering of people and experiences in Newfoundland and Labrador... a place filled with singing and song.

"I was really bowled over by the week, you certainly know how to make people feel welcome: everybody I met was so charming, warm and open. As for the festival itself - apart from being a remarkable organizational achievement - it was a week of academic and artistic excellence... wonderful!"  - Robert Faulkner, Iceland
